Description

The popular Christmas concert at the Rüeggisberg Church has already become a cherished tradition. In the atmospheric setting of the historic church, the concert combines musical excellence with contemplative Advent mood, creating a cultural highlight at the end of the year. For the 2026 Christmas concert, Heinz Holliger, one of the most significant Swiss musical personalities of our time, was invited. The internationally renowned oboist, composer, and conductor was a guest in Rüeggisberg in 2018 and is now returning again. Together with the Bärenstutz Ensemble, he will present a diverse and high-caliber concert program. Born in Langenthal, Holliger is one of the influential artists of contemporary music. As an oboist, he fundamentally expanded the playing techniques of his instrument and significantly influenced its development. He won the Concours de Genève and the International Music Competition of the ARD early in his career, laying the foundation for his international success. Besides his work as a soloist, he is actively involved as a composer and conductor and is considered an important mediator between tradition and modernity.
