Description

The Haus zur Stickerei in Heiden AR is a listed manufacturer's house and was built in 1820. The 19th century was the heyday of the textile industry and new manufacturers' houses were built for the production of textiles. From 1830, fine embroidery was booming and in 1842 there were around 35 cotton manufacturers working in Heiden alone. Home-based employment in the Appenzeller Vorderland amounted to 80%. The transition to machine embroidery did not take place until 1870, until the textile industry gradually began to decline in the early 1900s and only a few manufacturers survived.

The topic of "embroidery in the region" is still being pursued. We also open the house to the public with various cultural and culinary events.
