The family choir sings under the Christmas tree, Christmas classics from overseas sound from supermarket speakers, and already early in November Wham! rocks with "Last Christmas" on the car radio – Christmas spirit without music and singing would hardly be conceivable. It is no different at the Musikkollegium Winterthur. This year again, orchestra and conservatory choirs unite for a festive concert. And what would fit better than the ultimate Christmas classic – Bach's Christmas Oratorio? This year, four of the six cantatas that Bach wrote for the six original feast days from December 25 to January 6 will be performed. The often dance-like music takes on multifaceted forms. Artful arias, narrative recitatives, and solemn choruses intertwine and bring the Christmas story to life. And who knows, maybe this Christmas you will also sing the famous opening words of the oratorio under the tree: "Rejoice, exult! Up, praise the days!"
