Description

With his late 'Missa in h-Moll,' Bach reached a brilliant synthesis of his artistic work at the end of his life. Bach's orchestral treatment seeks to surpass its time: concertante power and contrapuntal rigor combine with a sound richness increased to eight parts. But at the center of this grand work, as always with Bach, are the human emotions spanning from desperate lamentations to exuberant joy. To this day, it remains unclear why Bach completed his mass begun in 1733 – thus, we become ideal witnesses of its performance. Presented on original sound instruments and with the decades of experience of the ensemble led by Rudolf Lutz of the J. S. Bach Foundation St. Gallen, the Missa is a moving contribution to not only the musical life of our time.
