Exhibition: 2000 Years of Wine at Arenenberg

Description

The exhibition, opened in 2025, takes a look far back into Roman times. Shard finds indicate that viticulture was already practiced 2000 years ago in the sunny Arenenberg sites above the Untersee. Representing this era is the imagined wine farmer Silvana from the first century AD, who guides today's visitors through the history of viticulture at Arenenberg and the lake in the exhibition. Her silhouette points the way to the historic medieval wine cellar. In short texts, she explains the topics at each station and introduces various experts. They deepen the information via audio guide and tell about the history and present of lake wine. Selected exhibits, some to touch, some under glass, some as animated images, provide additional experiences. The theme stations symbolize wine ships with barrels and sails – once the most important means of transport for wine on the lake.
