Extracurricular Learning Sites in the World Heritage Sardona: Elm-Lochsite

Description

The Sernftal offers unique opportunities to dive into topics around the spectacular geology of the Sardona Tectonic Arena directly on site with students — not for nothing was the region designated as UNESCO World Natural Heritage. We visit extracurricular learning sites in Elm and hike the Hörspielweg to Lochsite — the mecca of geologists. Along the way, we follow the traces of stones and water, explore the unique landscape, and delve into the truly crazy history of mountain formation research: slate mining, landslides, mineral springs, the "magical" Glarus main overthrust. We recognize and understand the processes, discuss historical theories and dogmas, and especially feel the striking interactions between humans and our natural environment. We experiment with observational, investigative, and playful methods to inspire learners about the complex and fascinating phenomena around geology. Where? General Information

The training takes place in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Tektonikarena Sardona and is aimed at teachers from 5th grade onwards. Participants explore various learning sites and learn more about geological processes and the history of mountain formation.
