Description
He was often called the Spanish Mozart, Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga, born in Bilbao. Admittedly, the comparison is flawed: de Arriaga lived fifty years later, died at the age of 19, and his music often already carries a romantic tone. De Arriaga was a prodigy – at least that he had in common with Mozart. At 13, he composed an opera and at 17 and 18 his three string quartets, works that show great originality and mastery of compositional craft. Besides all the lightness and melodic beauty, the D minor quartet also offers harmonic surprises and witty contrasts. For the second piece, the Nuancen String Quartet stays in the Spanish-speaking world but changes continent and era. For a play, the Argentine Astor Piazzolla composed the piece "Verano porteño" (Summer in Buenos Aires) in 1965. Four years later, he expanded this single movement into the cycle "Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas". This passionate city portrait by the Tango Nuevo master combines tango rhythms, jazz harmonies, and expressions of new music. And yes – very subtly, one can sometimes hear allusions to Vivaldi's famous original. The museum café is open before and after the event. The museum pass is not valid for this event.
