Description
An exhibition about the creative process of the most significant neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova. Since the times of the sculptural giant Michelangelo Buonarroti, we have felt that stone sculpture begins with a block of stone. It starts with the careful selection of the stone, understanding the drawing of that specific piece, and the subsequent hard work where the sculptor tries to carve his perfect vision from within the block. But what if that is not the only way? What if you can shape your vision as easily as pliable clay and refine it until the last moment before you completely encase it in a plaster shell? Only then do you approach the carefully selected block of Carrara marble and create a work resistant to the passage of time. The exhibition is realized in collaboration with Museo Gypsotheca Antonio Canova. The opening of the exhibition will take place on 20. 9. 2025 at 14:00. As part of the exhibition, there will be a supporting program on 5. 10. Day with Antonio Canova, where we have the honor of hosting Moira Mascotto, the director of the Antonio Canova Museum in Possagno, Italy. We also plan an educational workshop for the general public, where everyone will have the opportunity to try casting Pichler's gems with motifs of Canova's sculptures from plaster. The event is organized as part of the Year of Italian Nobility. The exhibition is open during the castle's operating hours.
