reads from her debut novel »Wer nicht kotzen muss, wird Astronaut*in« Back to the Future: Over 30 years ago, Angelina Maccarone received an award at the Literaturhaus. Her screenplay, which became the TV film »Kommt Mausi raus?!« in 1995, a groundbreaking comedy about the turbulent coming-out of a young woman, long before the word »queer« existed in German, was honored. Now, the director, screenwriter, and queer figurehead returns to Schwanenwik to present her first novel »Wer nicht kotzen muss, wird Astronaut*in« (Verbrecher Verlag). It tells the story of Giuseppina Rigatoni, a middle-aged woman who teaches directing and would love to finally make another film herself. But the mechanisms of the industry, courting, snacks, and handshakes increasingly annoy her. Then her father, who came to Germany as a »guest worker« in the 1950s, dies, and Giuseppina must navigate the South Italian bureaucracy without significant Italian language skills. And why does her partner often meet with this other woman? Angelina Maccarone was a professor of feature and documentary film at the Babelsberg Film University, has written screenplays for TV films, and directed, for example, the award-winning film »Fremde Haut« with Jasmin Tabatabai. In 2025, she realized »Klandestin«, whose screenplay was awarded the »Golden Lola«.
