Description

This program is a touching tribute by contralto Benedetta Mazzucato, honoring the female spirit and the emotional world of women. Each of the selected Baroque arias represents a specific feeling – from love to anger, revenge, self-sacrifice, and maternal instinct. With this, Mazzucato also wishes to commemorate her ancestors – real or in the realm of fantasy – who inspired her and always accompanied her on her path. She also calls the concert "a hymn to truth, sincerity, and the unvarnished honesty of the human heart." The arias sung by Benedetta Mazzucato mainly come from operas by Händel and Vivaldi, starting with Bradamante's furious revenge aria "Vorrei vendicarmi" from Alcina. The same Bradamante expresses loyalty, steadfastness, and hope in "Io son ne’ lacci tuoi" from Vivaldi's Orlando Furioso. The heart of Arsilda in "Io sento in questo seno" is worried and saddened, while Galatea seeks comfort in "Se m’ami, o caro." Revenge is once again invoked with "Saprà delle mie offese" from Händel's Serse. "Così potessi anch’io" is a longer, classical love lament of Alcina, again from Vivaldi's Orlando Furioso. Finally, Irene finds a glimmer of hope amidst heartbreak in "Par che mi nasca in seno" from Händel's Tamerlano. The program is a moving portrait of various female characters and emotional states, a journey into the innermost heart. On this journey, Benedetta Mazzucato is accompanied by the La Cetra Baroque Orchestra under Andrea Marcon.
