Description
In folk music, we encounter our time – polyphonic, contradictory, and lively. "Alpensounds" explores the fascination as well as clichés and new perspectives. What does folk music have to do with me? How did folk music become a symbol of Swiss identity? What developments shape cultural heritage or the desire to experiment? And why is there no "the" Swiss folk music? The exhibition is an experience for body, heart, and mind. It was created in collaboration with around 25 folk musicians. With their experiences, they set themes and directed their view on relevant questions about folk music. We think about history, Swissness, and popularization, get to know diverse musicians, refresh well-known folk songs, and make music together on the community instrument. The sound space in the heart of the exhibition leads into a sensual world of mountain images, natural sounds, instrumental and vocal collages. On stage, everyone who enjoys making music and sounds can try themselves out. And it becomes clear: folk music is different. And much more than we thought.
