From 10 years Vera grows up sheltered in a village near Prague. She is unaware of the atrocities of the Nazis that are beginning to sweep across Europe. But eventually, escape becomes the only chance for survival for the Jewish population. At this moment, a young Englishman decides to take action - and Vera's parents make a fateful decision… With nothing but a suitcase in hand, the young girl sets off into the unknown. For three days, she travels by train across Europe until she finally reaches the British capital, London. Alone in a foreign country, she must now build a new life. Loosely based on the memoirs "Pearls of Childhood" by Vera Gissing, the Theater La Senty Menti has adapted episodes from the diary for the stage. The play vividly and sensitively tells of a child's fears and wishes, the search for identity, and how the will of an individual can make a difference. "There are many ways for young people to learn about the Holocaust. One of the best might be to experience Vera's real diary performed in this theater piece."
