Between Two Strings: Deyiş and Nefes In this special concert, Ali Rıza Albayrak brings together the Anatolian tradition of the two-stringed Saz (Ruzba, Tenbur) with the Deyiş and Nefes of Alevi-Bektashi culture. Over centuries, Deyiş and Nefes have been transmitted through Kelâm, the Saz, and memory. In a simple yet profound musical language, they tell of the human quest, of longing to return to one's own essence, and of the spiritual world. The search for that depth hidden in this simplicity is also at the heart of Albayrak's music. The evening centers around the unique sound world of the two-stringed Saz and the Dede Sazı. In the Anatolian playing tradition, improvisation and immediate interpretation of the moment hold special importance. This open space also plays a significant role in Albayrak's musical approach. Traditional playing styles, improvisations, and spontaneous transitions are reshaped with each performance; the same piece can take on a different color depending on the mood of the moment. Another component of this musical approach is a unique technique of the right hand (Pençe style) developed by Ali Rıza Albayrak over many years, which he calls “Ara”. Developed from tradition, this playing style expands the rhythmic and melodic possibilities of the two-stringed Saz and has become an essential part of his own musical language. The name “Between Two Strings” extends beyond the two strings to a deeper meaning: the journey of man between birth and death, to that “In-Between” – “Ara”, where he searches for himself and truth between the visible and the hidden, between sound and silence... Influenced by Deyiş, Nefes, improvisations, and the sound of the two-stringed Saz, this evening invites a musical journey that is rediscovered with each performance.
