Description
Names, places, or dates are not mentioned. Only the change of the seasons indicates how life passes for two young people in Palestine. In light of the decades-long occupation and the failed peace plans of the 1990s, their dreams fade more and more. With her crystal-clear and subtle language, Adania Shibli tells of the effects of powerlessness and loss. "A quiet, searching, precise observer of details" (Süddeutsche Zeitung), she shows what literature can do: to make the pain of others tangible. The conversation will be held in English. Contributors and additional information: ADANIA SHIBLI (* 1974 in Palestine) writes novels, plays, short stories, and essays and is also involved in academic research and teaching. "Deception" is her second novel in German after "Eine Nebensache" (2022), which has been translated into over forty languages and was nominated for the National Book Award (2020) as well as the International Booker Prize (2021).
