This intergenerational quartet does not attempt to revive the explosive, cathartic sound storms of The Thing or the visionary, orchestral, and genre-crossing journeys of Mats Gustafsson's Fire! Orchestra, but instead presents its own uncompromising interpretation of 21st-century Free Jazz. It focuses on slow processes in all aspects of creation and forgoes the constant, urgent search for cathartic peaks. The hypnotic grooves and captivating, transcendental riffs of Gustafsson's Fire! Trio are unmistakable, as Gustafsson plays his baritone saxophone in the style of the spiritual Free Jazz of African Americans from the late 1960s and early 1970s, with its repetitive motifs, enhanced by Gustafsson's flute playing (including the Swedish folk flute Spilåpipa) and Downes' ghostly organ sounds. Featured artists: Mats Gustafsson (NO) – baritone saxophones, Nicolas Leirtrø (NO) – double bass and compositions, Kit Downes (UK) – Hammond organ, Veslemøy Narvesen (NO) – drums.
