4th Swiss Symposium "Grey Emissions in the Construction Sector"

Description

The construction and operation of buildings and infrastructures cause about one third of Switzerland's greenhouse gas footprint, consume over 70 percent of raw material demand, and are responsible for more than 80 percent of waste generation. The production of building materials alone accounts for about 10 percent of the national greenhouse gas footprint. To reduce environmental impacts in the long term and sustainably, the entire life cycle of a building must therefore be considered.

Currently, important foundations are being developed with the revision of the Environmental Protection and Energy Act as well as the new MuKEn. Since early 2025, the SIA 390/1 "Climate Path" standard has been in effect, which allows the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions from buildings. Now, cantons, politics, and forward-looking investors are required to prioritize the topic in parliaments and implement exemplary projects.

A key insight remains: more ordering competence is needed among builders and investors, as well as broader acceptance and knowledge among planners and architects – through targeted information and know-how transfer. The 4th Symposium picks up these insights and presents the following thematic blocks in December:

General Information

The 4th Swiss Symposium "Grey Emissions in the Construction Sector" takes place at the Bern Town Hall and is aimed at professionals from building and civil engineering as well as real estate. It addresses the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable construction methods, including current legal frameworks and innovations.
