Description

25 years of Irish Folk Nights Zaisersweiher Friday 16.4.2027 Since 2002, the members of TSV Zaisersweiher have been hosting the now legendary Irish Folk Nights. On the occasion of this anniversary, countless hands will once again transform the old festival hall into a cozy Irish pub, offering a wide mix of international folk and rock music over 2 days. The singer-songwriter Gary Cleghorn from Kelso, Scotland, impressed the audience last year during his debut performance in Zaisersweiher. With his guitar playing and extremely distinctive voice, Gary combines a variety of well-known songs with his own pieces. Many visitors felt as if they had landed in an Irish pub. Whether heartfelt ballads or upbeat classics, the selection of titles Gary has is virtually endless. Those attending both days can also look forward to some favorite songs from Runrig and Skipinnish on Saturday. Seo Linn means “Here We go” in Gaelic. The Irish band has been around since 2013 and consists of Stiofán Ó Fearail (vocals and guitar), Daithí Ó Ruaidh (vocals, keyboard, and saxophone), Keith Ó Briain (vocals, bass guitar, mandolin, and percussion), and Kevin Shortall (vocals, accordion, and percussion). Their trademark is combining modern titles with traditional songs and bringing their Gaelic mother tongue back to the forefront. In 2017, they broke through with their reinterpretation of the protest song Óró 'Sé Do Bheatha Abhaile and the title song Oro, achieving 6 million YouTube views. Seo Linn impressively captivates the audience and lets the famous spark jump with their unbridled joy of playing. "The Sandsacks" have been making a name for themselves as an exciting live band for many years and are also among the audience favorites in Zaisersweiher. With guitar, violin, mandolin, flute, bagpipes, and drums, they impress with their outstanding multi-part and powerful singing. Many classic songs from Ireland and Scotland encourage visitors to sing along and participate. The Sandsacks are guaranteed to turn any hall into a dancing cauldron. Draft Guinness and a whiskey tasting stand from the Friends of Angel's Share are, of course, part of this event. The TSV Zaisersweiher team serves Irish stew and other delicious snacks. Saturday 17.4.2027 Gary Cleghorn opens Saturday at the request of many guests from last year with a colorful mix of classic folk songs combined with a selection of his own pieces as well as legendary Runrig and Skipinnish titles. Another requested candidate for the anniversary event is a well-known formation: Dream Catcher from Luxembourg. Dream Catcher “live in concert” is authentic, unconventional, and rustic. Their range spans from Irish folk ballads to original singer/songwriting to captivating Raggle Taggle folk. Specifically, their original songs have a bit of pop, but draw strong inspiration from the vast well of Irish folk. Sometimes dreamy, melancholic, and sensual, but also full of energy and joy of life. For over 25 years, they have been playing great live concerts in Canada, the USA, Europe, and even Japan and Singapore. In Zaisersweiher, they will perform this time in full formation - with top-notch Raggle Taggle Gypsy Folk. Guests from the last Irish Folk Nights were asked to name their desired candidates for the 25th anniversary festival and vote on who should come as the headliner in 2027. The result was more than clear – the choice fell on Skerryvore. Lighthouses have been places of mystique and solitude since time immemorial. They guide sailors to safe harbors or help them navigate dangerous cliffs. A great inspiration for a band that has been sending out beacons into the world with their extraordinary sound for over 20 years and gaining new fans daily. The sound of Skerryvore, named after the lighthouse on the “Isle of Tiree” in western Scotland, is as breathtaking as the wild and untamed island itself. Their energetic trad rock with fiddle, accordion, pipes, flutes, whistles, guitar, and bagpipes is like wild spray on the cliffs, while bass, keyboards, and drums add funky accents. The beauty of the Scottish Highlands is also reflected in their music. The wonderful voice of frontman Alec Dalglish, who is responsible for most of the songs, goes under the skin. This mix has earned Skerryvore several awards, including best CD, best singer/songwriter, and three times “Live Act of the Year.” With chart successes in Scotland and England, BBC airplay, a worldwide contract with “Cooking Vinyl,” and the album “Tempus,” which reached the top of the Scottish album charts and the British folk album charts in 2023, Skerryvore is now one of Scotland's most successful bands. In December 2024, they performed as co-headliners in Glasgow's largest arena in front of 14,000 fans. In 2025, they celebrated their 20th anniversary with a legendary show at “Floors Castle” and then went on a world tour. In Zaisersweiher, the guys will bring their new CD “Beautiful Mistakes” and present some pieces from it to their fans. A live fireworks display of the highest class. Please secure your tickets in advance - demand is already enormous.
