Description
In autumn 2026, the purchase of art by the Canton of Solothurn will celebrate its 100th anniversary. What began with a painting to decorate the office of a government councilor has grown into the cantonal art collection with around 4000 works. The collection impresses with its breadth of supported art. It contains works by artists of regional as well as international significance. Many of these paintings are located in offices, corridors, and meeting rooms throughout the cantonal administration as well as in public buildings and museums. For once, selected examples are brought together in an exhibition at the museum, providing insights into the developments, functions, and goals of past cultural policies. At the same time, the presentation discusses questions about the current self-understanding of a cantonal collection.
