Description
In Switzerland, more than one million people live with hearing loss, and among them, 20,000 to 30,000 deaf individuals use sign language. Yet... Deafness remains largely misunderstood. We are not used to facing it, we minimize or exaggerate it, and generally, it is simply invisible. Thus, deaf and hard-of-hearing people are still too often forgotten, excluded from the daily flow of information, from adapted communication, and human relationships. However, these elements are precisely what, in our society, contribute to everything functioning smoothly and everyone being able to thrive. This exhibition aims to make the reality of deafness visible, to create spaces for meetings and exchanges to raise awareness and promote inclusion. Through this space designed for young and old, the Society of the Deaf of Valais hopes to share its vision of deafness: a richness born from difference rather than a sensory handicap.
