«Next Steps» – On new horizons and the art of change The dance world thrives on constant movement, development, and the courage to change. Under the title «Next Steps», hosts Michael Küster and Jason Beechey invite you to a new edition of the talk format Zurich Talks Dance on Thursday, September 17. The evening is dedicated to the crucial transformation processes of dance creators – from arriving at a new company to saying goodbye to the active stage. Guest is Cathy Marston, director of the Zurich Ballet, who will speak about the upcoming premiere of her choreography of Shakespeare's «A Midsummer Night's Dream». Australian dancer Mia Heathcote, who has recently joined the ensemble this season, shares her personal restart in Zurich. Opposite her is celebrated soloist Esteban Berlanga, who has ended his active dance career and is exploring new artistic paths. How this transition can be successfully managed will be illuminated by two experts who have undergone this career change themselves. Ihsan Rustem, now an internationally successful choreographer, talks about his path after his dance career. Former dancer and choreographer Oliver Dähler now leads the Swiss Foundation for Retraining Performing Artists (SSUDK). He provides valuable insights into how the foundation actively and practically supports artists in their career reorientation. The talk is enriched by high-caliber live performances. A pas de deux from Cathy Marston's «A Midsummer Night's Dream» will be performed. Additionally, students of the BA Contemporary Dance will present a work by the renowned Linga company, and «After Glass», an impressive piece by Ihsan Rustem, will be showcased. An evening full of movement, depth, and visionary outlooks.
