String Quartet No. 1 in E minor «Aus meinem Leben» Musicians: Barra Quartet
Helen Steinemann-Müller, Violin
Salome Hagenbüchle, Violin
Lenka Bonaventurova, Viola
Alexandra Iten Bürgi, Cello At the beginning of October, the Barra Quartet (consisting of musicians from the Zuger Sinfonietta) will be guests at the Fyrabig concert in Risch-Rotkreuz with two significant works of quartet literature: Leoš Janáček composed his «Kreutzersonate» based on Leo Tolstoy's novella of the same name about the moral problem of adultery from 1890. Unlike Tolstoy, Janáček takes the woman's side and processes the material almost operatically in a quartet that revolves around the freedom and independence of women in society. Smetana's first string quartet, like Janáček's work, is a journey into the depths of the human psyche and reviews the life of the composer. In the intimacy of the string quartet, the composer brings to life his youthful longings and joys, first love, and finally his debilitating deafness.
