Step into the circus family! Santino grows up in the circus and shows us everything we don't see in the ring. Santino is a circus child. His great-grandfather Ehe is one of the last great circus directors and tells him stories of his ancestors: about his friendship with the elephant bull Sahib, his first steps as a clown, prejudices against Sinti and Roma, and the sense of freedom worth enduring all hardships for. On Santino's eleventh birthday, great-grandfather Ehe asks what Santino would like to show in the ring someday, as he too should contribute something to their community. A circus child shares stories from the lives of the artists – growing up with the extended family and animals, living without safety nets and second chances, free as a bird.
