The work of Zdeněk Kříž is based on deep observation of the landscape and its constant changeability. His paintings are not merely records of specific places, but primarily capture their atmosphere, light, and mood. The lyrical character of the painting is emphasized by a sensitive handling of color and a more free painting style, in which echoes of Impressionism can be found. The author does not strive for a faithful description of reality, but for a personal experience of it – the landscape in his portrayal becomes a space of silence, memories, and inner stillness. He repeatedly returns to his paintings, contemplating their form and allowing them to mature naturally alongside his own view of the world.
