Wort und Stoff – Prison Textile Workshop

Description

For 29 years, incarcerated women at the Thebes women's prison in Greece have been able to attend the textile workshop "Wort und Stoff" every Tuesday afternoon. Equipped with limited resources (kindergarten scissors, secondhand fabrics and wool), the director, Eva Chiladaki, promotes the creative expression and communication of the participants. The products from the textile workshop are exhibited at exhibitions and bazaars – currently at Denkbar St. Gallen. The proceeds from sales are deposited separately into the accounts of the respective inmates and are highly welcome: phone cards, hygiene products, medication, the bus ticket after release…
