Description
How much safety is possible?
About dangerous people, prevention, and the limits of the rule of law. How can we recognize if a person might become dangerous? How reliably can experts assess risks—and how far can prevention go before it conflicts with the principles of a rule of law? The renowned forensic psychiatrist Frank Urbaniok has been dealing with serious violent and sexual offenses and the question of how to assess relapse risks as reliably as possible for decades. He has significantly shaped forensic psychiatry in the German-speaking area and developed an instrument called FOTRES for structured risk assessment. In his lecture, Urbaniok will demonstrate, based on his extensive experience, what we know today about dangerous behavior, what prevention options exist, and where their limits lie. It also involves difficult considerations: How much safety can a society create? What risks must it tolerate? And how can the protection of the population be reconciled with the principles of a rule of law? An evening about danger, risk assessment, and the question of how a society responsibly deals with uncertainty.
