Who Decides? Climate Justice in the Talk

The starting point of the talk is four projects that emerged from a participation project of «Mensch, Erde! – Das Klima im Wandel» and are currently presented in the exhibition space. They show different paths to more climate justice – from new legal approaches to international climate lawsuits to alternative forms of democratic participation. The talk contextualizes these perspectives, highlights opportunities and challenges, and creates space for questions and exchange with the audience. Evelyne Schmid is a professor of international law at the University of Lausanne. Her focus is on obligations to realize human rights and due diligence as well as interdisciplinary research on implementation mechanisms from the local to the international level. She intervened as a third party in the case of the Climate Seniors before the European Court of Human Rights and regularly teaches and publishes on human rights, planetary boundaries, corporate responsibility, and the law of armed conflicts. General Information

The talk takes place at the Natural History Museum of the Burgergemeinde Bern and addresses the implementation of climate justice. Using four projects from the exhibition «Mensch, Erde!» legal approaches and democratic participation possibilities are discussed.
