Washing Away Your Gaze

Description

The performance washing away your gaze is a choreography of looks in a public shower. Which looks are exchanged, who observes whom, who looks away, who can withstand the gaze? How can mutual observation create a solidaristic view – transforming shame, competition, and powerlessness into a communal space of self-empowerment beyond patriarchal attributions? The project explores how the public circulation and media compression of reports and documents of violence affect self-perception, body image, and daily life of FINTA* persons. In a subsequent discussion format, we invite you to join us for a guided exchange at Suppe: How do you feel when you hear news about gender-based violence or abuse cases? What influence or consequences do they have on how you are treated in your daily life? The speed at which we learn about violence against women* and queers seems to almost exclude societal and individual processing, yet they do not pass us without trace. Our goal is to create space for reflection on the shift of this public discourse. We aim to fill this gap with this project and empower people to share what the events trigger in them and how this violence influences our lives. Structural violence is a problem that concerns us all and must be addressed collectively. The performance and guided exchange are open to everyone. Try-Out: The performance was rehearsed in a short time and is a work in progress that will be further developed.
