Description
The War Requiem is based on Latin texts and poems by the English poet Wilfred Owen, who died in 1918. At the world premiere of the work in 1962 in the reconstructed Coventry Cathedral, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau performed alongside British artists. With this, Benjamin Britten made a statement of reconciliation. The oratorio features: a mixed choir, a children's choir, a symphony orchestra, a chamber orchestra, and vocal soloists. This effort emphasizes the composer's intention to focus all forces on overcoming war and violence. 75 years of Oratorienchor Karlsruhe Benjamin Britten: War Requiem Rebecca Blanz, soprano
