Description

What was it like when journeymen in the 19th century went on their wandering journey – and what motivates young craftsmen and craftswomen today to leave their homeland for the Walz? This evening we combine literature and the present: We learn more about Jeremias Gotthelf's novel "Jacobs, the Journeyman's Wanderings through Switzerland" and hear about the experiences of the main character. The novel also provides insight into a tradition that is still alive today: craftsmen and craftswomen still travel through Europe – in search of professional development, but perhaps also for more. We look forward to meeting our guests, who have all been or are on the Walz. Would you also like to talk with them and learn what they say about their everyday life and what the Walz personally means to them? We cordially invite you to the Gotthelf Center for this occasion, which will last about 1½ hours. Afterwards, there is an opportunity to end the evening with a convivial get-together at the bistro.
