Description

Walt's Blues Box impresses with musicality, spontaneity, compactness, and stage presence, which the musicians convey to the audience unfiltered. Walter Baumgartner, who won the Swiss Blues Award in 2016, founded the band in 2006 and since then has presented a dynamic blues potpourri from traditional to swing, jazz, and funk blues with his fellow musicians. A full, groovy, and exciting program consisting of original compositions complemented by others, whose content creeps into the legs, belly, and soul of every blues and music lover.

The unique way of mixing and connecting traditional blues with other styles is impressively shown on the albums recorded so far: “Live at Albani” (2007), “Walk Down The Road” (2009), “The Cat Walk” (2011), and “Flick Trick” (2017). The original compositions express a unique style that has continuously evolved and bears the signature of Walter Baumgartner. The music spans from blues through pop, funk, to jazz-blues without losing the character and center of their music, the traditional blues.

Walter Baumgartner has contributed to over 27 CD productions. He himself has recorded 13 albums with his formations so far. In 2016, he won the Swiss Blues Award in Basel. He has previously hosted a blues show live on the local radio Stadtfilter and initiated and led the Albani Thursday Blues Session in Winterthur. He founded the Winterthur Blues Night at Salzhaus, as well as the Bluesnight in Dübendorf and Heiden. He offers individual and group harmonica lessons and has been leading various workshops for some time. Additionally, he has been an endorser of the Hohner company for several years and plays exclusively Hohner harmonicas.
