Lecture Series «A House...»: Lütjens Padmanabhan

The lecture series «A House...» of the Institute of Architecture at FHNW is entering a new round. The focus of the four evenings is on different forms of collaboration, joint designing, and authorship. On this evening, Lütjens Padmanabhan will present a cooperative building in Zurich, designed together with Caruso St John. Along Gutstrasse, two related but independent houses form a pair—and are also the result of the first collaboration between the two offices.
In the winter semester 2026, the lecture series «A House...» invites four different positions in architecture: an international collective from Zurich and Belgrade, an architecture firm founded by three women from Munich, a London duo working from Porto and Palma de Mallorca today, and an architecture firm from Zurich that collaborated with a local office in Algeria for a project.
Using a specific building—each case a residential house—the architects will provide insights into their work and working methods. The shared designing is contrasted with shared living as a second perspective. From private homes to self-managed and cooperative housing, and social housing for a limited time, the four houses presented give different social structures and the respective relationship between individual and community a specific spatial form.
«A House...» is a lecture series in which buildings are comprehensively presented. This reveals the different perceptions of architects, clients, artists, users, and others who influence the appearance and fate of the buildings. The focus of the discussion varies; it ranges from urban planning premises to structural challenges, from historical references to social ambitions. Participants and additional information:
