The lecture series «A House…» of the Institute of Architecture at FHNW is entering a new round. The focus of the four evenings is on different forms of collaboration, co-design, and authorship.
On this evening, the office Dyvik Kahlen, working between Porto and Palma de Mallorca, will present a villa in Arnhem. Nine rooms wind around an open courtyard and blend communal and private areas into a continuous living landscape for a seven-member family.
In the winter semester 2026, the lecture series «A House…» invites four different positions in architecture: an international collective from Zurich and Belgrade, an architecture firm founded by three women from Munich, a London duo now working from Porto and Palma de Mallorca, and an architecture office from Zurich that collaborated with a local office in Algeria on a project.
Using a specific building – in all four cases a residential house – the architects provide insights into their work and working methods. The concept of co-design is contrasted with co-living as a second perspective. From private homes to self-managed and cooperative housing, and social housing for a limited time, the four houses presented give different social structures and the relationship between individual and community a specific spatial form.
«A House…» is a lecture series in which buildings are comprehensively presented. This reveals the different perceptions of architects, clients, artists, users, and others who influence the appearance and fate of the buildings. The focus of the discussion varies; it ranges from urban planning principles to structural challenges, from historical references to social ambitions. Participants and additional information:
