Description
We warmly invite you to a lecture series in which, together with the philosopher Dr. phil. Magdalena Hoffmann from the University of Lucerne, we explore the questions of what constitutes "a good life, good aging, and good dying." In three philosophical reflections, we approach these topics in a meaningful, profound, yet understandable and everyday-relevant way.
January 22, 2026: Living Well – Applied Self-Care
What is a good life and how do we maintain inner peace even in turbulent times? Dr. phil. Magdalena Hoffmann takes you on a philosophical journey to antiquity. She shows how relevant the questions about a good life from back then still are today.
Back then, "art of living" was considered the core of ethics: dealing well with emotions, recognizing the true value of things, and not being determined by appearances. Using vivid examples, the philosopher shows what we can learn today from the thinkers of antiquity. Dr. phil. Magdalena Hoffmann presents simple exercises with which we can take good care of our soul in everyday life – whether in the family, at work, or in retirement.
June 2, 2026: Aging Well – Lived Maturity
Is old age primarily a time of loss – or a time of maturity and wisdom? In this philosophical lecture, Dr. phil. Magdalena Hoffmann examines why both images contain a true core but are still too limited.
The philosopher invites us to discover old age as an independent phase of life with its own "goods of old age": matured relationships, passing on experiences, but also an honest look at vulnerability and limits. From a philosophical perspective, it becomes clear what really matters in old age – beyond clichés. The lecture offers food for thought for all people who ask themselves how the later years of life can be consciously and meaningfully shaped.
October 29, 2026: Dying Well – A Successful Farewell
Many people fear death and often see it as something exclusively negative. Philosophy, however, knows different answers to the question of whether death is always bad.
Based on philosophical considerations, Dr. Magdalena Hoffmann presents a perspective that views death more differentiated. She explains how we can live more consciously towards our own end of life or the farewell to loved ones. The central question is what "good dying" can mean and why it is relieving to free oneself from the pressure to have to die in a very specific way for it to be "right." The evening invites reflection, questions, and quiet confidence.
