Description
At the end of the 19th century, the village was chosen by doctors from the lowlands to establish one of Switzerland's most important centers for tuberculosis treatment. Thanks to its pure mountain air and exceptionally high sunshine exposure, Leysin soon gained worldwide fame. For nearly 70 years, thousands of patients came here for treatment. One of the few witnesses who experienced heliotherapy for four years will share his vivid memories of the first clinic by Dr. Rollier, *Le Chalet*, with the audience. What remains of this long history today? Which traces still testify to this defining chapter in Leysin's history? Should today's Leysin, in an increasingly stressful world, draw inspiration from this heritage and develop offerings around 'resources and health' to promote the balance of body and mind? The lecture will be led by Véronique Bernard, a certified cultural mediator and specialist in Leysin's medical history. She is among other things co-director of the films *Leysin – 100 Years of History* and *Living Memories*, with 15 recorded testimonies, as well as author of several publications on local cultural heritage.
