Urs Schocher; The Müller Family in Filisur – Tracing the Footsteps of a Large Family At the beginning of the 20th century, a certain Abraham Müller founded a large family in Filisur. With his 14 living children, the family at times made up almost 5% of the entire population of Filisur.
In the lecture, we follow the traces of the family: Where did they originally come from, how did they get to Filisur, and what became of the numerous descendants? Anecdotes from the family history and oral traditions are also told.
The speaker also wants to show what it meant to live in the back of the Albulatal at that time. What did everyday life look like, under what conditions did such a large family live, and what opportunities did the time offer the children?
At the same time, the story of the Müller family is a vivid example of what genealogical research can mean when dealing with a family name that today ranks first among the most common family names in Switzerland.
