No bear in the wild oak forest It has long been known that the city of Bern did not originate in the "wild oak forest" as claimed by the chronicler Conrad Justinger, but was merely a new, but only additional element in an already existing settlement chamber. But what did this settlement chamber look like in the Early and High Middle Ages? In this lecture, this settlement chamber with its cemeteries, churches, monasteries, castles, and villages will be presented according to current archaeological, historical, and recently also palynological findings.
