From Flax to Thread

Description

Flax, the basis for food, oil supply, and textiles, was until the mid-20th century a firm and indispensable part of a farm. The knowledge of the elaborate production of textiles was passed down from generation to generation, and the textiles produced were treated with care. Due to our consumption of fast fashion, this appreciation has been forgotten. In this workshop, we will learn about the cultivation of flax, as well as the craft of fiber extraction. We will break, hack, and attempt spinning on a spinning wheel.

General Information

The workshop "From Flax to Thread" offers an in-depth introduction to the history and processing of flax. Participants will learn about the cultivation and production of textiles from this sustainable fiber plant and can gain practical experience themselves.
