Uptown goes Downtown: Uptown Big Band «A Tribute to Vince Benedetti»

Description

With the concert «Tribute to Vince Benedetti», the Uptown Big Band pays tribute to a personality who significantly contributed to Bern's reputation as a jazz metropolis 50 years ago. Vince Benedetti served as the director of the Swiss Jazz School from 1975 to 1982. Under his leadership, the professional department of the SJS was recognized as a professional qualification for jazz musicians by the government council. Vince appeared as a pianist, trombonist, as well as a big band leader and arranger, and was a promoter of modern jazz in Bern. The Uptown Big Band will put together a program mainly consisting of arrangements by Vince. Singer Sandy Patton is the doyenne of jazz singing in Bern. She came to Europe with Lionel Hampton's band. From 1995 to 2013, she was a vocal instructor at the Swiss Jazz School and the Bern University of the Arts, mentoring numerous jazz singers who are actively successful in the current jazz scene. Sandy has a long-standing friendship with the Uptown Big Band and has performed with them several times. Or as Sandy says: «Uptown is my favorite Big Band». Source: BeJazz
