It tells the story of Hester Prynne, a young woman who refuses to reveal the father of her illegitimate child. As a sign of her shame, she is condemned to wear a conspicuous scarlet letter A for Adulteress on her clothing... Years later, her husband returns unrecognized. He recognizes Hester's daughter Pearl – the pearl, which despite her Hester's origin, is her most precious possession – and begins a revenge campaign against the biological father: the highly revered Reverend Dimmesdale. In the end, the guilt-ridden clergyman collapses after a public confession. In his last moments, a mysterious brand – a flesh-colored A – is said to have appeared on his chest. He dies in Hester's arms, while Pearl gives him her first tender kiss. The renowned Győr Ballet celebrated successes with its interpretations of great world literature in European capitals such as Milan's La Scala, Tokyo, and New York. At the Theater am Ring, the ensemble demonstrated its mastery in dramatic narrative ballet with Anna Karenina last season and received standing ovations. "László Velekei's choreography is stirring and captivating – it draws the audience into the depths of the human soul. (...) Even in the intense language of dance, the story unfolds with this compelling effect. (...) That Velekei is masterful in the genre of dramatic narrative ballet was known. But that he repeatedly manages to set the bar so high deserves special recognition." Magyar Nemzet Additional information:
