The Zurich-based trio u /r, founded in 2019, works with an instrumentation that cannot be broken down into individual voices: prepared piano, electronics, sampler, and saxophone interweave to create a shared resonance space. Tamriko Kordzaia, Tomas Korber, and Tobias Gerber move between composed material and improvisational dialogue. Sounds are recorded, shifted, played back, and shaped further by the other instruments. This results in music where cause and effect are often indistinguishable – focused, attentive, and open to the moment. "We will focus on different sections at specific times. Different places, different moments. Sometimes I will want to pass by the Leberdame when she is taking out her trash. Sometimes I will want to be outside with the motorcycle. Sometimes both together." – Tom McCarthy: 8 ½ Million Cosimo Fiaschi – Soprano Saxophone Cosimo Fiaschi, born in 1998, is a soprano saxophonist, improviser, and composer. He dedicates himself to exploring the sonic spectrum of his instrument, with a focus on multiphonics. He performs both solo and in mixed ensembles in the fields of improvisational music and contemporary music. Fiaschi has numerous releases with international labels such as INSUB. records, Dinzu Artefacts, Granny Records, Zoomin’ Night, Sofa label, Shhpuma, and 901 edition.
For WIM, Fiaschi presents "unveil / unfold," his first solo release published by INSUB. His concert will examine the acoustic behavior of the soprano saxophone in relation to the space, with a focus on multiphonics as generative material, exploring their spatiality and the perception of sound and silence.
