Description

TV Smith was a founding member, singer, and songwriter of the Adverts, who formed in late 1976 and became one of the leading bands of the first wave of British punk rock. In early 1977, they regularly performed at the newly opened Roxy Club in London and gained cult status with the single "One Chord Wonders" released by Stiff Records. Their next release, "Gary Gilmore’s Eyes," became a Top 20 hit, leading to radio and television appearances as well as significant media interest. The album "Crossing the Red Sea with the Adverts," released in early 1978, is still considered a true classic of this era and is often cited as one of the twenty best punk albums of all time. After the Adverts disbanded in 1979, TV formed several bands before focusing more on solo performances in the early 90s at the suggestion of punk poet Attila The Stockbroker. This led to the acoustic album "March Of The Giants" on the Cooking Vinyl label. Since then, he has established himself as a leading solo artist in the punk rock scene and has released numerous albums. He has also been involved in several collaborations with other bands, particularly with Die Toten Hosen, who served as TV's backing band on the album "Useless." TV is extremely independent and proudly embodies the original spirit of punk rock. He performs worldwide as an acoustic solo artist and occasionally plays with backing bands. TV's latest album is titled "Handwriting" and was released in April 2024 by Easy Action. In collaboration with renowned producer and multi-instrumentalist Gerry Diver, they created an album that opens up an exciting, entirely new sound world without relying on conventional rock instruments.
