Description
Folk Songs | Home | Loss The fourth «Heimatklänge» matinee takes on a contemplative tone—an experience that songs, above all, can offer us. Simone Felber is one of the most dazzling figures in contemporary Swiss folk music. A recipient of a Swiss Music Award, this classically trained yodeler is among the most versatile folk musicians far and wide. The songs of her ensemble, iheimisch, are about loss. With the program “Totätanz,” they take up the medieval motif of the dance of death, inspired by frescoes and murals in Basel and Lucerne. The songs explore personal losses and encounters between life and death within the context of folk music. «We accompany each other home» is the title of the program by the second ensemble in this double concert. The moving phrase symbolizes departure and arrival, and the search for home. The vocal trio Trëi sings songs of wanderers and the displaced in fourteen languages. They span the spectrum from Hildegard von Bingen to Arvo Pärt and cast a questioning gaze upon the loss of home—often unjustly associated with it—one of the primal experiences of human history. Drawing on their own compositions and songs of diverse origins, Trëi weaves a music of the inexpressible from silence and courage. At the same time, they pose the eternal question of where we truly belong. Duration: approx. 120 min., including intermission
