Comic version of an ancient tragedy performed by contemporary tragedians. - before the performance, a lecture introduction is available from 18:00 (free entry, in Gallery XY-1) How can theater look in a time when selling oneself is more important than actually being skilled? And does it even make sense in a world dominated by other forms of entertainment and marketing? The answers are sought in a comic adaptation of ancient tragedies, which is not just a parody of classic dramas like Oedipus Rex, Electra, or Antigone, but also a sharp, sarcastic critique of contemporary society, acting careers, and today's values. Director Šimon Spišák, known for his "theater punk," consciously works with archetypal characters from the greatest ancient tragedies that still resonate in our cultural subconscious. Alongside theatrical exaggeration, space opens for socio-psychological implications, such as the well-known Oedipal complex. The production poses fundamental questions: Why do people (not) go to the theater today? What do they actually expect from theater? The acting collective, consisting of Klára Bulantová (alternating with Milada Vyhnálková), František Maňák, and Jakub Spišák, presents themselves in ancient togas, with ancient gestures and modern humor full of perspective and bizarre situations. The set design and costumes were created by Karel Czech, with whom director Spišák collaborates in tandem. This duo also created the successful fairy tale Three Nuts for the Theater nacucky!, which is still part of the repertoire. Tragédi relies on the democratic principles of ancient theater, which was intended for all citizens without distinction, while also pointing out the threat to these values today. By combining traditional forms with modern expression, it offers not only entertainment but also prompts reflection on the meaning of theater and the priorities of contemporary society.
