«Dead Love! Or not?»

Description

When Joachim Raff expected in the spring of 1853 to have to bury his love for the actress Doris Genast, he did so with the help of music – he wrote a song cycle titled «Dead Love». The only partially preserved work was recently published for the first time by Edition Nordstern – presumably, we are therefore facing a premiere. The pieces are combined with Raff's two settings of Tennyson's poem Tears, idle tears and the Eight Songs op. 173. The duo of baritone Johannes Wedeking and pianist Hedayet Djeddikar has been engaged with Raff's music for many years and was significantly involved in the recording of a Raff song double album for the Sterling label. For this important performance, one could wish for no better voice or fingers. Before the concert, Severin Kolb introduces the adventurous genesis and the form of the cycle. The concert is part of this year's MKLA Music Festival.
