Tony Ettlin: ‚Borneo Louis- A Nidwaldner Shapes the History of Switzerland‘

Description

Music: Markus Tinner (Clarinet) and Marcel Roth (Accordion). The Nidwaldner Louis Wyrsch (1793-1858) was a military officer and colonial official in the Dutch colonies of Southeast Asia. He lived there with a Malay woman, and they had five children together, two of whom died in childhood. In 1832, Louis returned to Switzerland with a son and a daughter, while his wife stayed on the island of Java with their third child. A stay in Nidwalden became a permanent residence. Louis Wyrsch was active as a liberal politician and as a representative of Nidwalden at the Federal Diet, contributing to the formation of the new federal state and the Federal Constitution of 1848. Tony Ettlin combines detailed research and fictional conversations with historical figures to provide an exciting and vivid insight into the private and political circumstances surrounding the creation of today’s Switzerland.
