Description
On Sunday, October 4th, the Toggenburger Museum hosts a lecture by railway historian Anton Heer, reflecting on the fatal accident in Rickentunnel exactly 100 years ago. A freight train stalled in the tunnel's middle, resulting in the loss of nine railway workers and rescue personnel. The event sparked widespread mourning and criticism of safety protocols, which prompted swift improvements by the SBB, including the electrification of the Rickenbahn in 1927. The lecture will include photographs of the victims from the Swiss State Archives.
