Description

This four-part ballet evening combines two legendary dance pieces and two new creations for the Zürich Ballet. A long-standing relationship connects the company with William Forsythe. His 2012 premiere "New Suite" set to music by Handel, Bach, and Berio features eight duets from different creative periods and serves as a virtuoso Pas de deux retrospective by the American choreographer. Brazilian Lucas Valente, after a long dance career, is on a successful path to becoming a choreographer. "Bare" is his first piece for the Zürich Ballet. The multi-voiced ensemble derives all its energy solely from the noise of their own movements. Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis is known for his energetically charged creations at the pulse of the times. In "Orbit," dancers circle like galactic celestial bodies on their orbits, physically and mentally challenged to the utmost. With his video ballet "Live," Hans van Manen has made dance history. Created in 1979, during the pioneering days of video technology, this piece for a pair of dancers, a cameraman, and a pianist breaks the boundaries of the stage space and proves to be a masterful illusion game about perception mechanisms.
