The Escalade Festival 2026

History: Every year, the Compagnie de 1602 commemoratesthe anniversary of the Battle of the Escalade, which took place on the night of December 11–12, 1602. This was a failed attempt by Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy, to take Geneva by surprise by scaling its city walls. Over the course of three days, the society reenacts scenes from daily life in Geneva at the dawn of the 17th century. With more than 2,000 members, it is now the largest historical reenactment society in our country. Its ranks include citizens of all ages, backgrounds, and faiths. Program: The Compagnie de 1602 brings the streets of Geneva’s Old Town to life. Groups of fifers, drummers, and brass players; arquebusiers; pikemen; cavalry patrols; and even our “Falco” cannon parade, march, and showcase life in the 17th century. Throughout the weekend, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy meals in the city. Our stalls offer the Escalade emblem, publications, and many other products for sale. In the evening, the streets are lit by torchbearers and flares. During the grand procession, mulled wine and lanterns will be available for purchase.
