"The Double Bass" by Patrick Süskind is an intense chamber play about a musician in the shadow of the orchestra. At its center is an anonymous double bassist who, in his soundproof room, reflects on his life, aspirations, and instrument. The double bass then becomes a metaphor for life - sometimes a support, sometimes a burden, always inseparable from his existence. Our staging moves this inner monologue into a condensed performance space: the audience becomes directly part of the action and physically and emotionally closer to the character's mental universe. The boundaries between the stage and the audience space begin to blur, as spectators also find themselves on stage. Musically, the text is accompanied by a live double bass played by bassist Mathias Debus. The music and words enter into direct dialogue, amplifying, breaking, and commenting on each other, opening up additional emotional spaces. The result is a multifaceted stage event, between concert and theater, between inner world and sound body - a look at the fragile existence of a man who finally wants to be heard. Already in 2018, actor Karim Habli wanted to stage this play at "La Poste" under the direction of Annelore Sarbach - nine years later, it is finally happening.
