I’ll drink your blood like wine.» What happens when you run the romantic «Freischütz» by Carl Maria von Weber through the nightmare machine of the 20th century and instead of a dusty hunter's fairy tale, reveal a modern story about greed, temptation, and desire? «The Black Rider» does exactly that. The plot remains surprisingly close to the original: The young writer Wilhelm makes a pact with the devil out of love for the forester's daughter, who helps him with magical bullets. They hit every desired target – except one: For the last bullet is directed by the devil himself… The musical «The Black Rider» is a surreal, winking, dark-absurd parable from the pen of ROBERT WILSON (director of the original production), TOM WAITS (music), and WILLIAM S. BURROUGHS (book). After its premiere in 1990 in Hamburg, it quickly became a cult hit. Director Olivier Tambosi and conductor Iwan Wassilevski reinterpret the work musically and scenically.
